How to Fix Damaged Hair and Skin During a Harsh Winter Season

A burly beard is great to keep you warm during winter, but it's not so great when it comes to keeping your hair and skin moisturized. Snowy and cold climates can lead to some serious beard burdens like damaged hair and skin from the dry air.

Sadly, we can't all live in the warm golden sunshine of California; however, there is still hope for the men trying to maintain their manes while battling the chilly weather.

To make it easier for you, we here at Zeus Beard broke down the causes of damaged hair and skin during winter and provided some tips to repair those issues.

What happens to your hair and skin during winter?

Your hair and skin need the essential oils they produce. However when it comes to wintertime, the cold air strips them right away. In fact, it can even slightly lift the cuticles on your hair strands, making it even harder to maintain moisture.

For your beard, this often means tangles, frizziness, split ends and breakage. When it comes to your skin, the frosty weather means dryness, redness and cracking skin.

Since damaged hair and skin is something nobody wants when trying to put their best face forward, we're here to ease your worries and show you some at-home solutions.

How to repair damaged hair and skin

1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

A reliable moisturizer is your best friend this winter. When hitting the slopes or just commuting in the cold, your hair and skin need a little extra lotion love to avoid dryness.

In addition to your typical facial moisturizer, beard balm is useful to soften and moisturize damaged hair and tame stubborn strands.

Zeus Beard Balm offers natural extracts to moisturize, tame and increase shine.

2. Don't wash your face with hot water.

The cold can be harsh on your hair and skin but the answer isn't to choose hot instead.

Hot water is just as bad as cold air at drying out your hair and stripping away essential oils.

The better choice? Stick to a lukewarm shower.

It may not be as satisfying as the scalding water when it comes to battling winter's bitter bite, but your beard will thank you later when it's not dry and itchy.

3. Shampoo less and conditioner more.

Moisturizing starts before you're dabbing on the lotion and heading outside.

Shower care is important, but making management mistakes when cleaning your beard can be counterproductive to your cause.

The trick is to cut back on shampooing your beard to 1-2 times a week  and increase conditioning to 3-4 times a week.

Zeus Beard Conditioner and Softener is perfect for treating damaged hair because of its blend of vitamins, aloe vera and green tea.
